Lymph Health
Understanding your Lymphatic System
Your immune system is a vital part of your health and well-being. The lymphatic system is a part of the immune system, and consists of ducts and tubes that cover your entire body. Flowing through these tubes is a liquid called lymph. Unlike your blood which is pumped through your body by the heart, your lymph fluid is circulated by exercise or movement.
This lymphatic liquid brings nutrients to your cells, and carries toxins and waste products away from the cells for excretion. Without this constant flow our cells are overwhelmed with toxicity and will eventually perish or enter a state of disease. The lymph tubes carry the lymph fluid, along with these toxins and other matter, to the lymph nodes. It is in the lymph nodes that this matter is neutralized and given to the blood stream for release from the body.
There are several elements that comprise the lymph liquid. This includes the electrolytes such as potassium, calcium, sodium, phosphorus, and chloride. A proper diet rich with fresh fruits and vegetables helps provide the lymphatic system with the nutrients it needs for this vitally important transportation task.
It is important to maintain lymph node health. If the lymph nodes become overwhelmed by toxins and waste they can become inflamed, and this inhibits their ability to keep the body clear of toxic matter. Drinking adequate water and eating foods rich in electrolytes will help maintain this flow. Exercise will also aid in the flow of the lymphatic system, further helping in maintaining this extensive immune support system. If the lymph system becomes weak or overwhelmed it cannot perform properly, forcing the role of detoxification to other areas, such as the liver.
Good lymphatic health can be improved simply and easily through adequate nutrition and hydration, and a good exercise and movement program. By supporting our lymphatic system our immune system can protect us from illness and disease. Good lymph health also shows on the outside, and will promote healthier skin that is free from blemishes, eczema and acne.
